2А EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Efficacy of Albit® on ten arable crops was investigated in Abuja, Nigeria. Laboratory
experiment showed that presoaked seeds of Arachis hypogaea, Digitaria exilis, Vigna

unguiculata and Zea mays with 0.2 ml Albit® L" HjO produced significantly higher germination
1
percentage, radicle and plumule lengths (P < 0.05) man those of the control. The application of

Albit® at 0.4 ml L" H2O had optimal effect on the seeds of Abelmoschus esculentus, C.
1
lanatus and Lycopersicon esculentum.
The pot experiment involved the assessment of the germination and vigour of some seeds of

arable crops treated with Albit® bioregulator and also with Supernormal® fungicide. The

seedling vigour index (SVI) of each of the crops treated with Albit® in combination with
Supernormal® was significantly higher (P < 0.05) than the control. The shoot growth rate (SGR)

and shoot biomass (SBM) of the crops, except in £>. carota and A. esculentus were significantly
higher (P < 0.05) than the control. The root biomass (RBM) of D. exilis, V. unguiculata, L

esculentum and D. carota did not significantly differ (P > 0.05) due to the treatment effects.
The assessment of the efficacy of Albit® with or without Supernormal fungicide on the

germination and seedling vigour of crops on irrigated field in Abuja, Nigeria was further carried

out. At 28 Days After Sowing (DAS), the shoot biomass of Z mays treated with ARrit® was
1.5 g higher than the control. Treated D. exilis had the feast shoot biomass increment of 03 g

more than the control. Also at 28 DAS, treated A. caudatus had the highest shoot growth rate per
week (0.48 cm) over the control. This was closely followed by the weekly growth rate of S.

indicum (0.36) and the least weekly growth rate (0.19 cm) was observed in 51 galli. The A.
caudatus treated with Albit® and Supernormal® had the highest shoot biomass of 10.47 g and

this was 2.54 g higher than mat of the control.

Generally, Albit® proved its worth as a bioregulator and fertilizer on the arable crops
investigated as it increased the germination percentage, seedling vigour and biomass compared

with the control. Its biopesticidal efficacy was also noticeable on the field especially when

added with fungicides like Supernormal®.
